Kathy Petruzelli will present a practical and thorough approach to auditing the CDM.

Kathy has over 30 years of experience in healthcare, with 20 years of coding experience, reimbursement, and compliance. She is the Director, Revenue Compliance at Danbury Hospital with responsibility for revenue cycle compliance.  Kathleen’s experience includes eight years at Yale University School of Medicinein reimbursement and compliance.  She has been an AAPC Approved instructor for the Professional Medical Coding Curriculum, and is currently an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM Trainer.

 The Rising Tide of “Whistleblowing.”

Daniel Miller

        Berger & Montague, P. C.

 

Daniel Miller will talk about the increase in “Whistleblower” cases and why this is occurring.  He will also provide a primer on the False Claims Act.  Of great interest are his theories about why some Compliance programs fail.

 

Daniel Miller is an attorney who concentrates on complex civil litigation, representing whistleblowers in state and federal False Claims Acts against companies or contractors who have committed fraud.   He was previously a Deputy Attorney General for the Delaware Department of Justice for 16 years.   He also served as Director of Delaware’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.  Mr. Miller is nationally recognized for his work in whistleblower cases and has been a frequent speaker on these and other topics.

Healthcare Reform

State Senator Michael McLachlan 


Connecticut State Senator Michael McLachlin   will talk about the impact of Healthcare Reform, generally. Another likely topic will be what auditing the state plans are doing to enforce the rules.  There will also likely be a discussion of insurance exchanges, and penalties for not purchasing health insurance.

 

Senator Michael McLachlin is serving his second term in the Connecticut State Senate.  He is the ranking member on the General Assembly’s Government Administration & Elections Committee.   He also sits on three other committees: Judiciary, Legislative Management, and Transportation.

Steven Chananie is a partner at Garfunkel Wild, P.C., where he heads the firm’s Compliance and White Collar Defense Practice.  Prior to that, he was Chief of Appeals at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, previously he was Counsel to Field Operations and chief appellate counsel at the New York State Organized Crime Task Force, and also an Assistant District Attorneyat the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
